$500 monthly check for California residents: Do you qualify?

The United States offers various forms of economic assistance to low-income families, whether at the national, state or local level.

Fresno County, California provides such a program, where the Economic Opportunity Commission (EOC) approved a guaranteed basic income program to offer monthly payments of $500 for a period of one year.

Who can receive a $500 check in California?

According to official information, assistance is available for residents of certain cities in Fresno County. To be eligible for the monthly payment of $500 you must reside in the 93706 or 93234 zip codes, which are southwest of Fresno and in the city of Huron, respectively. In addition to living in these zip codes, interested parties must meet other eligibility requirements:

  • Be over 18 years old
  • Have a child up to five years old or be expecting a child (be pregnant)
  • Have income equal to or less than $30,615 annually in ZIP code 93706 and $35,103 in 93234

How to request monthly financial assistance

If you reside in one of the eligible zip codes and believe you meet the remaining requirements, you can apply online or in person. To do so online, go to the Fresno Economic Opportunities Commission website, click on “Advancing Fresno County”, and enter the “Apply Now” section. You will have to provide your information and send your application.

If you prefer to complete the process in person and you live in ZIP code 93706, you will have to go to 1805 E. California Ave. If your zip code is 93234, then go to 36602 Central Ave Opening hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday to Friday. The application period closes on May 15, 2024.

How do I know if I was chosen for the monthly assistance?

Not everyone who applies will automatically receive the financial aid. The money will only be provided to 150 families in a lottery process among eligible applicants. 75 families from ZIP code 93706 and 75 from 93234 will be selected. If you are chosen, an EOC agent will contact you, either via email, phone call or text message. For more information, call (559) 263-1000.
