West Texas Ranch Rodeo talks about upcoming rodeo on Today in Amarillo

AMARILLO, Texas (KAMR/KCIT) — Lane Provence and Randy Whipple with the West Texas Ranch Rodeo (WTRR) joined Today in Amarillo to talk about the upcoming rodeo, scheduled to run on April 26 and 27 at the Amarillo National Center, located at 3301 SE 10th Ave.

According to organizers, 16 Working Ranch Cowboys Association (WRCA) teams will compete in the two-go rodeo for cash and prizes. A WRCA-sanctioned youth ranch rodeo will also take place and is expected to host 10 teams. Ranches from Texas, Oklahoma, and New Mexico will be represented. The current world champion team will compete along with two 6666s teams, Dixon Creek and Frisco Creek divisions.


Organizers said the horse sale will be postponed this year.

Vendors from around the area will also be at the center to show their wares and provide a shopping experience.

The published schedule for the 2024 West Texas Ranch Rodeo included:

  • Friday, April 26
    • 8:30 a.m. – 3 p.m. – Vendor Move in
  • Friday Night Event
    • 3 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. – Vendors
    • 4:30 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. – Contestant check-in
    • 6 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. – Team pictures
      • East end of arena outside the arena panels
    • 6:30 p.m. – 6:55 p.m. – Judges adult (rules)
      • East end of arena outside arena panels
    • 7 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. – Adult first round adult rodeo
  • Saturday, April 27 Youth Rodeo Event
    • 10 a.m. – 10:30 p.m. – Vendors open
    • 11 a.m. – Painting for a Purpose paint class with Rose
    • 11 a.m. – noon – Youth contestant check-in
    • 12 p.m. – 12:30 p.m. – Team pictures
      • East end of arena outside the arena panels
    • 12:30 p.m. – 12:55 p.m. – Judges youth (rules)
      • East end of arena outside the arena panels
    • 1 p.m. – 3:45 p.m. – Youth WRCA Qualifier Rodeo
    • 3:45 p.m. – 4:30 p.m. – Youth awards
    • 4:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. – Golf Challenge
  • Saturday, Adult Rodeo Event
    • 6:45 p.m. Team lineup

    • 7 p.m. – 10:30 p.m. – Adult second round adult rodeo
    • 10:30 p.m. – 11 p.m. – Adult awards
