A man was caught carrying a handgun, ammunition and drugs around the streets of Sheffield.

Hassan Mohammed, 23, was caught after plain clothed police officers spotted a group of men acting suspiciously which included Mohammed. When they approached him, Mohammed attempted to flee but was quickly detained, on Wednesday, January 24.

When officers told Mohammed that he would be searched, he admitted to having a black handgun and a small quantity of ammunition in his bag. The search also uncovered a knife and a large quantity of wraps which officers suspected to be class A drugs.

Cash worth £375 was also seized along with three mobile phones. A warrant was later conducted on Mohammed’s home, further uncovering a large quantity of class A drugs, later confirmed to be heroin and cocaine. Detective Constable Lisa Yates, from our Armed Crime Team, said: “This excellent result came from proactive work by our neighbourhood policing officers and comprehensive work carried out by the Armed Crime Team.

“Another relentless criminal has been taken off the streets and placed behind bars, and another firearm has been seized preventing any more harm to have occurred. We do not tolerate firearms on our streets, and take this as a warning that if you have a gun, we will find you and you will be forced to face the consequences of your actions.”

Mohammed, of Edward Street, Sheffield, appeared before Sheffield Crown Court on March 8 and was forced to face the consequences of his actions, pleading guilty to all offences he was later sentenced to.

Mohammed has been locked up for 11 years. He has today (Wednesday, April 17) been sentenced at the same court for possession with intent to supply class A drugs, possession of a bladed article in a public place, possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition without a certificate and possession of criminal property.
