‘In my experience’ – Rafael Benítez shares next Liverpool manager concern amid title prediction

Former Liverpool boss Rafael Benítez admits a ‘special character’ will be needed this summer to take over from Jürgen Klopp. The German will leave Anfield at the end of the season and could have just seven matches left in charge of the club.

The search for his successor is ongoing as Liverpool considers a number of options. Sporting CP boss Rúben Amorim is the favorite for the post but dismissed claims last week that he has reached an agreement with Liverpool.

Other names linked with the post include Roberto De Zerbi, Julian Nagelsmann and more recently ex-Bayern Munich boss Niko Kovač. Benitez accepts that anyone taking over from Klopp faces a difficult task at Anfield.

The Spaniard followed Gérard Houllier when he arrived in the summer of 2004 and told Sky Sports: “To manage a top side, especially now with such good players and so much money, you need a special character.

“It’s very difficult to replace someone like Klopp and everyone expects the next manager to win. In my experience, it’s not easy when you go in after a successful manager. There are too many things that you don’t want to change, but you have to adapt to your mentality and style.

“This transition is always difficult. When I signed for Liverpool they told me I had three years just to compete, so any manager will need time.”
