Emirates suspends check-in at Dubai Airport affecting Birmingham passengers after torrential rain

Flights out of Dubai were grounded due to torrential rain as Birmingham passengers were caught up in the travel chaos. Emirates suspended all check-ins at Dubai Airport for the rest of today, Wednesday, April 17.

Two Emirates flights bound for Birmingham Airport were meant to depart today, but its entire schedule has been halted until midnight. Dubai Airport also pleaded with travellers not to come to the terminals unless it was “absolutely necessary.” Over a year’s worth of rain fell in several hours causing horrific floods which swamped the airport and roads.

Flights from BHX to Dubai still left yesterday, April 16, and are scheduled to depart later today. Holidaymakers are being advised to check with their airlines over the delays and disruption.

Dubai airport posted on X: “We advise you NOT to come to the airport, unless absolutely necessary. Flights continue to be delayed and diverted. Please check your flight status directly with your airline. We are working hard to recover operations as quickly as possible in very challenging conditions.”

In a thread on X, the airline posted: “Emirates is suspending check-in for passengers departing @DXB from 8:00am on 17 April until midnight, due to operational challenges caused by bad weather and road conditions. Affected customers can contact their booking agent or visit for rebooking.

“Passengers arriving in Dubai and already in transit will continue to be processed for their flights. Customers can expect delays to departures and arrivals, and are advised to check the latest flight schedules on
