Charlotte Finishes Eighth at The AAC Championship

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. – The Charlotte 49ers women’s golf team completed the American Athletic Conference tournament on Wednesday (Apr. 17) shooting a total of 302 (+14) in the third round, while finishing in eighth place (896, +32) for the tournament at the Southern Hills Plantation Club in Brooksville, Florida.


SMU saved their best round for last, shooting the second-best round in championship history (-12, 276), trailing only their 14-under 274 from a season ago. SMU finished at 21-under 843. The Mustangs held four of the top ten scorers, led by Emily Odwin, Ellie Szeryk and Mackenzie Lee’s 5-under 211. Ashley Chow finished at 2-under 214. Daniela Abonce from UTSA (-9) won the individual championship.


Kaiyuree Moodley (+9, 225) was the top finisher for Charlotte tied for 33rd on the individual leaderboard. Her best round came in round two when she finished at 74 with five birdies. Shelly Chen (+10, 226) was just one stroke behind Moodley. Birdies on holes 12 and 18 helped propel Chen in round three.

Jette Schulze (+11, 227) shot a 76, 76, and 75 respectively through the three rounds of play. After shooting even par through the first nine holes on Wednesday, Schulze was plagued by bogeys on holes four and nine, and a double bogey on hole seven.

Kayla Bartemeyer (74, +2) carded birdies on holes seven, 12, and 16 for her best round of the tournament. Ilani Short (81, +9) rounded things out for the Niners in the third and final round.
